Katie Faulkner is the founder of West Work, an office with a mission for sustainable design that is beautiful, contextual, and environmentally responsible. Underpinning all projects is the sentiment that design architecture should be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. All endeavors seek to reconcile the ecological and social impacts of planning and construction work, with a net positive outcome. She is also a founder of Highland Park Technologies, and R+D company focused on the means and methods of Deep Energy Retrofits.
Katie has been engaged for over twenty-five years with spaces and buildings for education, working, living, and healthcare. Her work is motivated by an interest in sustainable, modular construction, with ambition to reduce risk and improve cost control. Previously she was a Vice President of Design for Katerra, focusing on a mid-rise mass timber housing prototype. For nearly a decade prior, she was a founding partner of the firm NADAAA, where her projects included the Daniels Building at University of Toronto, RISD’s North Hall, and the R+D Center at the Beaver School. She has been recognized with notable awards, including the 2014 Holcim Award, an AIA COTE Award, and other design industry accolades. Before NADAAA, Katie was an Associate Principal at Shepley Bulfinch. In 2017 she received the Women in Design Award from the Boston Society of Architects. In 2020 she was named to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.
Katie is an adjunct faculty member at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
