Energy modeling is a valuable tool in the green builder’s toolbox. It is a requirement of many energy codes and green building certification programs, and may also be used to earn tax credits and utility incentives. But their most valuable role is as a decision making tool for building designers.

This workshop will focus on improving the modeling skills of a beginning to intermediate energy modeler. The ideal attendee will have a basic familiarity with green buildings, commercial energy codes, and energy modeling, but will have struggled to create models that make it successfully through a third party review process and/or accurately predict performance. Attendees should have an engineering background and have a basic knowledge of eQuest or other modeling tools, as well as some knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G. The goal is not teach people to run models, but to help them create better quality models.

In addition to standard workshop materials (slides) the attendees will receive a USB Flash Drive containing example modeling exercises, and tools that we use in our modeling process. Participants are very strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops, to participate in the exercises in real time. The example exercises will be used in class as facilitated exercises. Other items on the drive will be explained.
