Soo Jin S. Yoo is a Senior Associate at MERGE Architects. She has gained experience in a variety of project types during her eighteen years of architectural design practice, including residential, housing, workplace, and cultural and educational facilities. Many of these projects involve meeting the needs of multiple client agencies and the comprehensive conception and design of exterior envelope and interior spaces, including acoustic properties, digital information systems, and passive design. She currently leads multiple housing projects in development communities across the city of Detroit and regions such as Northwest Arkansas, as well as works on infill housing in the Boston area. These projects explore a reinterpretation of housing typologies that contributes to the city’s resurgence, encourages placemaking, and responds to the need of middle housing and healthy living. Soo Jin appreciates being challenged with new ideas in both practice and academia. She has taught design studios and served as design critics at Harvard’s Career Discovery, Harvard University, Boston Architectural College, Northeastern University, and at Wentworth Institute of Technology as an Adjunct Professor. She holds a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and she received her Bachelor or Architecture degree and Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts degree from Rice University. She is a USGBC LEED Accredited Professional.
