Since 2006, Mikhail has been working in the energy and climate policy space, seeking a sustainable transition away from fossil fuel dependency and increased efficiency of buildings. She recently relocated to New York to assist in the development of NYSERDA’s Carbon Neutral Buildings Roadmap, a framework for decarbonizing buildings in the state of NY by 2050. Mikhail has been an active leader on building efficiency and R&D. She has served as the co-lead for the Scaling Buildings Retrofit Panel at ACEEE Summer Study 2020, a peer reviewer for the DOE BTO’s Better Buildings Conference, and on the Board of Directors for the California Energy Efficiency and Demand Response Council.
Prior to joining NYSERDA, Mikhail led the Building Efficiency Research group at the California Energy Commission, funding innovative technologies to reduce the energy use of buildings. Prior roles include legislative advisor for the California Office of Ratepayer Advocates, market engagement manager at the energy and behavior evaluation firm Opinion Dynamics, and senior analyst in the CPUC’s Energy Division. She has an MPP from UC Berkeley with a concentration in energy policy, and a BA in public policy from Mills College.
