Jim Newman is the founder and Director of Metrics at Linnean Solutions, which provides environmental analytics and benchmarking for corporate, institutional, and municipal clients. Linnean’s work includes ecosystem services assessment, life cycle assessment and embodied carbon studies, and site benchmarking for pre-development studies. This work is embodied in Living Building Challenge consulting, EcoDistrict planning and management, and Resilience analysis and planning.
Previous to Linnean, Mr. Newman was with BuildingGreen, as the Director of Strategy, where he led the development and introduction of most of BuildingGreen’s online products including LEEDuser.com, BuildingGreen Suite, and the High Performance Buildings Database.
Mr. Newman helped found the Massachusetts Chapter of the USGBC, first creating a membership organization for green building professionals, and then, moving that organization into Chapter status with the USGBC. Mr. Newman is the current Board Chair of the Chapter. He is also a founding Board member of the Resilient Design Institute, created by Alex Wilson of BuildingGreen, to pursue research and education on resilience in the built environment and a Board member of CLEAR, the owner of the Lenses regenerative development framework
As Director of Strategy and Business Development at BuildingGreen, LLC - the ‘go-to’ green building resource for North America – Jim was a driver of green design into the standard practices of design and construction firms. He led the development of the BuildingGreen Suite, through funding from NYSERDA, and a research and writing project to create Green Guideline Specifications, funded by EPA. Jim also led the development of the recently launched LEEDuser information resource.
Jim serves on the Boards of the USGBC Massachusetts Chapter and the Green Resources Institute. He is a regular speaker at numerous conferences and seminars around the US, including SXSW Eco. Jim was educated at Lehigh University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
