Vermont architect Jean Terwilliger specializes in the design of sustainable buildings, using collaborative design methods and cost-effective green building technologies. Her recent projects include Bristol Village Cohousing, Vergennes Community Housing, multiple high-performance single family homes, the commercial renovation and energy retrofit of Middlebury’s historic train depot, and a wide range of smaller projects throughout Central Vermont.
A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Jean is licensed in Vermont and New Hampshire, NCARB certified, with over 20 years of experience and extensive training in sustainable design including passive house certification. She worked for firms in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont, spent several years raising two children, and ran her own firm for a decade before joining Vermont Integrated Architecture in 2013. She donated design services for several high-performance Addison County Habitat for Humanity houses and is a member of the Climate Action Planning project of Addison County’s Climate Economy Action Council.
Jean gained an interest in design and construction early in life crawling over floor joists and cleaning up nails during the construction of a family cabin in central Wisconsin, and has been exploring architecture ever since. Jean is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Vermont Green Building Network.
