Grayson Jordan is a partner at Paul A. Castrucci, Architects, a Certified Passive House Designer and a registered Architect with a passion for building well and building sustainably, with a special emphasis on community-centered and affordable housing projects.
Mr. Jordan’s completed projects include an award-winning Passive House + Net Zero multi-family building in Brooklyn, an award-winning Passive House retrofit in Brooklyn, affordable housing Passive House Retrofits in the Lower East Side and a Passive House certified new construction affordable housing building in the Bronx. Current projects include multiple deep energy retrofits of affordable housing and NYCHA projects in NYC; 10 affordable housing, prefabricated Passive House + Net Zero single family homes for Habitat for Humanity NYC in Queens; a Passive House community center in the Lower East Sid;, and several medium-to-large scale (80 to 220 units) Passive House affordable housing buildings across NYC. Each project is a new exploration of energy efficiency, aesthetics, and designing for the human scale, kept in balance by project budget. Mr. Jordan – and the firm as a whole – leverages the info feedback of energy modeling and a nuanced understanding of architectural detailing and construction to create affordable, buildable, and extremely energy efficient buildings.
Mr. Jordan has presented on Passive House and energy efficient design in university settings and at NYC DDC, NESEA, the US and NY Passive House Conference. He has presented several projects for Passive House Days, Urban Green, BE-EX, NYC Green building tour and NY Open House. For the past several years, he has provided continuing education lectures on the NYC energy code, and served on the most recent NYC Energy Code Advisory Committee. He has published articles and featured work in various publications, including Environmental Design and Construction Magazine, the Architect’s Newspaper, Dwell, Architect, BuildingGreen.com and Inhabitat. Mr. Jordan’s work for the firm has won several awards, including an AIANY COTES Award, NYSERDA’s Building of Excellence Blue Ribbon, US Passive House Award, and several Building Brooklyn Awards.
