Charles joined New Ecology originally in 2019 as an engineering intern. After learning the intricacies of working in the sustainable affordable housing market during this internship, and a second internship the following summer, he joined fulltime in 2021. Mr. Simek works in a number of capacities across the Decarbonization, Engineering, and LEAN teams. Recently, he has also taken on managing the Electrify Cambridge program where he provides technical expertise to Cambridge residents looking to decarbonize their 5+ unit buildings. He does comprehensive data analysis of mechanical systems in buildings in order to provide clients with actionable information clients can use to increase the energy efficiency of their properties. He also performs full building energy audits, documenting and analyzing the buildings to assist in the creation of energy efficiency project proposals. While in the field he also works with clients to understand system performance and troubleshoot issues and ultimately implements changes and other improvements. Mr. Simek built a strong foundation in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Purdue University working on a number of data projects focused on efficiency and optimization. One of these projects optimized an electrical vehicle charging infrastructure for the Midwest and created a website where users could plan a road trip using the charging stations.
