Lunch and Learn: Getting Better at Getting Better - Lean Thinking for Residential Construction
When compared with conventional, code-built homes, the builders of high performance homes are at a disadvantage right out of the gate. Our homes tend to cost more because we use high quality materials and craft them into complex assemblies that require uncommon care, knowledge and precision to execute successfully.
Given the challenges, we can’t afford to also have less efficiency and more waste in the building process. To be more competitive, we need to be better in every way: higher quality product and a more streamlined, less wasteful process. One methodology that our companies have found to be particularly effective toward this goal is Lean thinking.
In this Lunch and Learn session, we will present a brief history of Lean thinking and its application to the construction industry, a plethora of “real world” examples of implementing Lean in our shop, our office and on site, and a look at the challenges of establishing and strengthening a culture of continuous improvement. Open to all attendees.
