Proposal for a New RESNET Standard for Embodied Carbon
The up-front carbon savings that come with factoring embodied carbon emissions into our design calculations will be essential to meet the 10-year timeline on reversing climate change. We cannot wait for the perfect time or the perfect tools. We must do this now, even as the Environmental Product Disclosure (EPD) databases and Embodied Carbon (EC) tools are evolving. Enough work has been done for those tools to be integrated into current RESNET accredited software, so that builders can dial in on both operational and embodied carbon emissions. If RESNET is going to adopt this proposal, we need to show a wide base of support for the initiative; we want to use this session as a launch pad for widespread industry support.
