You’re invited to a 2-site Pro Tour in Burlington, Vermont! Our hosts, New Frameworks, will be opening both their shop and a project so that attendees can see how their innovative, low-carbon modular projects come together, from factory floor to completed build.
Our event will begin with an opening presentation from our hosts, which will focus on discussing the advantages of using prefabrication and predesigns as a strategy to increase housing stock options rapidly, efficiently, and affordably during this housing crisis. The New Frameworks team will speak to the opportunities and challenges associated with the ADU (additional dwelling unit) space and infill housing.
We’ll also learn how the company’s ADUs fit into Burlington's electrification strategy and climate goals. These high-performance buildings are fully electric and made with straw panels and other local, nontoxic material choices that build up the low-carbon and healthy housing stock, providing highly in-demand housing without compromising on sustainability goals. Providing space-, cost- and energy- efficient mechanicals in a small space was a central focus of the design process.
After this opening workshop, we’ll visit the New Frameworks shop to see how the straw bale panels are assembled and to ask questions directly to the people who make this work possible.
We’ll then head to an example of a completed project, where attendees will see an example of what the final products can look like, and learn more about the specific story of the all-electric home we are visiting, including mechanical decisions, from additional project partners.
We’ll wrap the day with a celebratory reception and a chance for in-depth Q&A with the members of the presenting companies.
